Marriage bond should be required for adoptionAs a wife and an adoptive parent, I’ve got to strongly disagree with the adoption of a child by a local woman living with, but not married to, a man. By adopting a son while living with her boyfriend (who, as I understand it, has not adopted the boy), she’s requiring her son to make an emotional investment to a man who has no legal ties to her or the boy.
Statistically speaking, that man is not likely to stay in the picture. More “live-in” relationships end in “divorce” than marriages. It’s a simple fact that will weigh heavily on this little boy. There’s a reason that the law against cohabiting unmarried couples is on the books. The law protects children from men who float in and out of the home.
