Welcome to Depoe Bay, Oregon Vacation Rentals!
A huge sea wall runs the length of the downtown area which enables our visitors to shop or dine always within view of the ocean. We have the distinction of being the only town on the entire coast with this amenity.
Waves run beneath lava beds and build pressure to spout water as high as 60 feet into the air. These are known as "SPOUTING HORNS" and are visible during turbulent seas and stormy weather, which occurs mainly in the winter months
Video of "SPOUTING HORNS" (BLOWHOLE) at Depoe Bay
The spouting horns will wow you with their enormous power and propensity for pounding you. Under the right tidal conditions, fissures in the rocks below the seawall will squeeze the water into one giant squirt, spouting seawater high into the air. Occasionally you'll catch the delightfully surreal sight of spouting horns shooting high enough to soak cars on the highway 101. Be prepared to get soaked if you're parked near them and venture outside your car.
"WHALE WATCHING CAPITAL OF THE OREGON COAST" is sure to be a memorable one. Depoe Bay has a resident pod of grey whales which makes its home here 10 months out of the year.
Visitors from everywhere come to whale watch either from many shore observation spots or to take one of our charters out for a closer look.
There is nothing quite so spectacular as seeing whales in their natural habitat. This is picture of whale blowing taken from one of our units.
Viewing is best when there is no wind to disturb the water surface. Look for the tale-tell puffs of air and geysers of water from whales blowing when they surface to breathe. Once you have spotted a blow, concentrate on that location, looking for more blows. With luck you will see the body of the whale as it sounds preparing to breathe before diving back beneath the waves.
Video of Whales Watching
Depoe Bay host the smallest natural navigable harbor in the world consisting of six square acres.
Because of our proximity to the ocean, fisherman or whale watchers can be from dockside to viewing or fishing in a matter of minutes. Video of Fishing boats return to Depoe Bay
