You May Have Owned A Hybrid Vehicle

Believe it or not, there are a lot of people who own or might have owned a hybrid-vehicle during one point in their lifetime. A moped for instance is one type of a hybrid-vehicle.

A hybrid is a type of vehicle wherein the engine of a gasoline is combined with that of the power of the rider's pedal. The fact of the matter is, hybrid-vehicles are everywhere.

Hybrid trains

Most locomotives are actually hybrid-vehicles, specifically the diesel electric types. The state of Seattle also has buses that run on diesel electric hybrids. These types of vehicles extract electricity from overhead-wires. They also could run on diesel if and once they are not near from the wires.

Hybrid trucks

Also, those large trucks used for mining are also a type of hybrid-vehicle, specifically the diesel electric one. Believe it or not, submarines are hybrid-vehicles also. They run on nuclear and electricity, while some run on diesel and electricity.

Basically, a vehicle that is able to bring together any two power sources (or more) which could indirectly or directly provide forward motion to a vehicle is considered a hybrid.
Vehicles that are currently on the road are hybrids that run on gasoline and electricity. This is the most popular hybrid vehicles nowadays. This vehicle is different with that of an electric type of vehicle.

Hybrid combines the best of both worlds

Basically a hybrid-vehicle is a sort of compromise. One of this vehicle's objectives is to heighten the mileage of a car, at the same time decreasing the gas emitted by the vehicle.

To understand how a hybrid combines both, it is best to take a look first of what a car should do. A standard car must be able to drive a minimum of three hundred miles. It should also be easily refueled.

While a car that runs on gasoline is able to do this, the downside is that this type of vehicle emits a significant amount of pollution. It also has a low mileage. However, a car that runs on electricity produces very little pollution; the downside is that it is able to only go for fifty miles up to one hundred miles. Also, it has been known that electric cars are quite slow and are a bit difficult to charge.

A car that runs on electricity and gasoline is able to combine the two features of such vehicles into one.

How does a hybrid do it?

Cars that run on gasoline and electricity are composed of parts that make it do what it does. For one, such cars have a gasoline engine, but the engine is a lot smaller compared to the engines in non-hybrid cars.

There is also an electric motor in a gasoline electric car. The electric motor in a hybrid car works both as a generator and a motor.

A generator is also found in a gasoline electric car. But the function of this generator is to produce electricity. The batteries for a Hybrid Car are used as a device to store energy. It is made to function as the one that extracts and puts energy to the car batteries.

Two sources of power

A parallel type of hybrid vehicle is one type of power-source wherein the supplier of the gasoline comes from the fuel tank, and the supplier of power to the motor is the batteries.

However, it is both the electric-motor as well as the engine which could automatically turn on both the car's wheels as well as the car's transmission.

Meanwhile, a series type of hybrid is where the engine of the gasoline turns the generator on. The generator could then do any of the two: recharge the car's batteries or turn on the power of a motor which in turn ignites the car's transmission ultimately turning on the wheels.

Be aware though that when a parallel type of hybrid is used in a car, it is both the motor and the engine that is the source of driving power. But in a series type of hybrid, the gasoline engine is not the direct source of power to the vehicle.

In summary, hybrid cars seem to combine the benefits of two differing worlds. A hybrid car turns out to be an efficient vehicle that seems to answer the needs and wants of an average vehicle owner.
