Identity Theft by Phishing
Stealing Your Life: The Ultimate Identity Theft Prevention Plan
by Frank W. Abagnale

Stealing Your Life is more frightening than a gory murder mystery. Any one of us, from cradle to grave, is vulnerable to a swindle that can wreck us emotionally, cost us serious money, ruin our credit ratings, and take us years to straighten out. Identity theft is here to stay, and as long as legislators, businesses, law enforcement agencies, and individuals fail to take it seriously, the number of victims will continue to climb.

For thirty-two years, the author has been a law-abiding citizen; his criminal past, famously recounted in the book and film "Catch Me If You Can," is a distant memory. However, he knows how crooks think, and this knowledge has led to a lucrative career as a consultant for the FBI and corporations all over the world in preventing frauds and scams. Abagnale is horrified at how easy and tempting identity theft is for the budding criminal. He calls it "a crook's dream come true."

Fraud Alerts merely tells the person viewing your reports that someone has unjustly created a debt. Credit freeze means your files are restricted entirely to loaners, policyholders, employers, and others. The ability for anyone to form credit by using your name is completely prohibited with a credit freeze pending on your reports.

Credit freeze is the best source for stopping identity theft, and it will help you, since you may be eligible for credit, even if your identity was stolen. Fraud Alerts mean that when you apply for credit, most likely you will be rejected. The Credit freeze stops identity theft in their tracks.

At what time you instigate credit freeze to stop identity theft your odds are better of getting credit and it will permit companies you seek employment to run background checks, only by use of a PIN number. Thus, when you initiate a credit freeze the PIN number is yours and will only be removed temporarily if you are applying for employment or a line of credit.

Utilizing credit freeze to stop identity theft usually takes a few days upon request in the states that permit the option, and it means that no matter what the thief has in his/her possession belonging to you; (Driver License, Date of Birth, Social Security Number, et cetera) means nothing. To begin the credit freeze process in stopping identity theft, contact TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian immediately, after notifying your local authorities, telling them that you wish to freeze your accounts. It depends on the state you are in as to what it entails in freezing your accounts to prevent further criminal activities, but for the most part, if you have proof that you are a victim the process is free. Some states charge $10 if an act of identity theft has not occurred, or else if you are a victim longer than a specific timeframe and now calling.

The best tips for preventing identity theft include:
Keep constant watch over your bank statements, credit reports, and keep receipts on all purchases made by you. Monitoring all activities will help you to stay alert and help you if additional legal steps are required.
If you suspect that unauthorized activities are pending, be sure to contact the credit bureaus, your creditors, bank, credit card providers and anyone holding information linked to you immediately.

While putting a credit freeze on your reports to stop identity theft is a good idea, steps to prevent should be taking as well:

Do not give our personal information to anyone without knowing your level of security.

Never give your personal information over the phone lines.

Avoid giving personal information over the Internet unless the site is secured and guarantees that your information will not be sold, leased or given to others.

Last, but not least, never lead your self to believe that you are untouchable by identity thieves.
